The History of Our Parish

THE HISTORY OF OUR PARISH

It was an ambitious and risky undertaking when a small band of parishioners decided to build a new church on a brown-field site in the Meadows. However, there was no alternative because we could not afford to go out to tender.  The project committee of Canon P J Soar, Pat Cunningham & Kevin Mulhern was chaired by Michael McCarthy, with secretarial support initially by Maura Foley but subsequently by the ultra efficient and highly energetic Miss Jean Roseigh. The early days appeared to be one continuous battle of bureaucratic objections and sceptical architects who simply could not comprehend the drive, the enthusiasm, the dedication and sheer determination to build a replacement for the old, structurally unsafe, St Patrick’s Church.
